  HISTORY

The Liceo de Cagayan University Alumni Association was formally organized on March 13, 1993, after the endorsement of its Constitution and By-laws to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Headed by Mr. Frank Mendez, the alumni officers of school year 1992-1993 exerted great effort in the framing of the constitution. It was accomplished just in time for the Ruby Celebration of the school in 1993.

The Article of Name and Purpose of the Association state that the official name of the association shall be Liceo de Cagayan University Alumni Association (L de C - AA) - a non-profit, non-stock association whose purpose is to promote the welfare of its members and that of the Alma Mater; and that the principal office of the association shall be at Liceo de Cagayan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Article II of the Constitution and By-Laws stipulates that all graduates of Liceo de Cagayan University (Grade School, High School, College and, non-degree courses) are eligible for membership of the association and that only those who pay the membership fee and comply with the rules and regulations of the association shall become bonafide members.

In 1993, a scholarship program was conceived. For its funding, the Association held a fund raising activity during its 39th Alumni Homecoming in February 1994. The association has awarded scholarship to the following students:

1. Mr. Vivencio Joyno, Computer Engineering (graduated in 1997)
2. Ms. Ingrid Tan, Commerce major in Management (graduated in 1997)
3. Mr. Rene Bahian, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (graduated in 2003)
4. Mr. Roy Luza, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (ongoing - 4th year)
5. Ms. Zaira Fernandez, Information Technology (ongoing - 1st year)

The Liceo de Cagayan University Alumni Association has been involved also in the community extension program of the university. For two successive years, 1995 and 1996, the association had provided school supplies as donations to the poor school children of Barangay Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City, and goodies to the mentally impaired patients of the House of Hope, Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. In 1997, the alumni association joined the Department of Health and the Department of Interior of Local Government in distributing medicines and providing dental services to the underprivileged in Kauswagan.

In February 1996, the association published its first newsletter called the Licean Link. Its second issue was released three years after in February 1999.
